14 Ilonggo athletes win in 2013 Special Olympics

Fourteen athletes brought home honors for Iloilo City after winning medals in the 2013 Special Olympics Asia Pacific Regional Inaugural Games in Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia on December 1-7, 2013.

“We are truly proud of these youngsters, who despite their handicaps, were able to surpass the challenges of sports and excelled beyond everyone’s expectations,” Mayor Jed Patrick E. Mabilog said.

The students of SPED-Integrated School for Exceptional Children who participated in aquatics were Daniel Lanceta, Larry Stuart Fanega, Patrice Isabel Rivera and Tanya Denamarca; for athletics Alden Jimenez, Mack Gayver Saul, Michael Jyzryh Guarte, TD Jan Mangaran, Emilda Soriano and Judy Ann Tampus; and for bowling Jessica Demalata, Rey Odicta, Louies John Decolongon and Kate Pielago.

They received Certificates of Recognition from Mayor Jed during the flag raising ceremony at City Hall, Dec. 16.

Dr. Nelly Valerio, City Schools Divisions Superintendent, accompanied the team to their trip in Australia.
