Antique records first COVID-19 case

Updates on novel coronavirus in Antique province.

The Provincial Government of Antique confirmed that there is already a positive case of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) in the province.

In an official statement posted online on Tuesday, Antique Governor Rhodora Cadiao said that the patient is a 74-year-old male resident of Paranaque City in Metro Manila which is now at Brgy. Semirara, an island-barangay situated 159 kilometers from the mainland Antique.

He arrived at Brgy. Semirara of the Caluya town on March 9 via a private plane. The patient sought consultation at Semirara Mining Power Corporation Hospital on March 19 after experiencing fever, shortness of breath and difficulty of breathing. His specimen was collected on April 2.

Antique Province was notified of the result of the test from Western Visayas Medical Center Department of Pathology, Sub-National Laboratory confirming the case as positive for COVID-19.

The patient is now under stable condition and under strict home quarantine in Semirara Island.

The local government unit of the Municipality of Caluya is already conducting contact tracing and active case finding for possible transmission.
