There is already a confirmed case of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) in the Visayas after a 62-year-old patient under investigation (PUI) in Dumaguete City tested positive for the disease.
Negros Oriental Provincial Government announced in a press briefing on Wednesday night, March 11, that the patient is now under treatment in Silliman University Medical Center (SUMC) in Laguna, Dumaguete City.
According to Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) assistant officer Dr. Liland Estacion, the patient is from Negros Oriental who traveled to Greenhills, San Juan City to attend a meeting.
He was first admitted to Ace Dumaguete Doctors Hospital in Barangay Daro before being transferred to SUMC.
The patient was among those 16 new cases announced by the Department of Health (DOH) on Wednesday. He was labelled as Patient No. 39 in the 49 total Covid-19 cases nationwide.
Local medical authorities are now doing immediate contact tracing to track down those who had direct contact with the patient. (With reports from Yes the Best Dumaguete)
