DOH reports 2 more COVID-19 cases in WV

DOH reports 4 COVID-19 cases n WV, total 552.

Department of Health Regional Office 6 announced that there are two new confirmed cases of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Western Visayas, bringing the region’s total to 4.

UPDATE, March 25: Mayor Jerry P. Treñas revealed in a press conference on Wednesday that the confirmed case of COVID-19 in Iloilo City resides in a subdivision in Mandurriao district. He did not disclose the exact barangay but assured that contact tracing and disinfection will be done in the village.

In a press conference on Tuesday, DOH-6 Regional Director Dr. Marlyn Convocar said that the third case is a 61-year-old female from Iloilo City who had history of exposure and traveled to Manila. She showed signs and symptoms of fever, cough, body malaise, and diarrhea. The patient is currently admitted in a hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.

In a Facebsook post, The Medical City Iloilo (TMCI) confirmed that the third case is admitted in their hospital. The patient was tested March 18 and the result arrived this morning.

TMCI said that she is in no way related or had any contact with the first COVID-19 patient from Guimbal, Iloilo.

The fourth case is a 45-year-old male from Jamindan, Capiz. He also had a history of travel to Manila. The patient is a known diabetic and is on some maintenance medications. He has fever and cough and currently admitted in a health facility. He is reported to be in stable condition.

DOH is advising those who may have been in close contact with the positive cases to fully cooperate in contact tracing activities. The health agency in coordination with local health authorities will directly communicate with identified close contacts.

All over the country, DOH announced 90 new confirmed cases today, the highest single-day increase in positive cases. This brings the total to 552, with two additional deaths and two new recoveries.

DOH advised the public to be vigilant in protecting one’s self from the possible spread of the virus through frequent hand washing, observing respiratory etiquette, social distancing of at least one meter from another person, and infection prevention and control measures in the household.
