Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is now constructing more roads in preparation for the volume of vehicular traffic once Panay-Guimaras-Negros Bridge is in place.
In an interview over RMN Iloilo, DPWH 6 assistant regional director Engr. Jose Al Fruto confirmed that the construction of ‘big-ticket road projects’ are now ongoing in Iloilo.
Fruto said that Radial Road 2 (R2) from Pakiad, Oton to Tigbauan, which will act as an alternative route to southern Iloilo is nearing completion.
The construction of new roads from coastal Leganes going to Cabugao, Pavia all the way to Oton-San Jose San Miguel Road, which will be called Circumferential Road 2 (C2) is also ongoing.
Circumferential Road 3 (C3) which is from coastal road Zarraga-Dumangas boundary going to Zarraga town proper all the way to Sta. Barbara which will make Dumangas Port accessible to First District and Central Towns is also underway.
Also in the pipeline is Circumferential Road 4 (C4) from Barotac Nuevo passing through Central Iloilo and going to Southern Iloilo.

Fruto added that they are hoping to start the South Coastal Road from Fort San Pedro going to the municipality of Oton within the next 2 years. DPWH looks to reclaim the area for roads which will also serve as coastal protection.
Fruto emphasized that these big-ticket projects signify that the Panay-Guimaras-Negros bridge will push through, resulting to increase in the volume of vehicles that will use the roads.
DPWH has also started the construction of P480-million Ungka 2 flyover in the intersection of Benigno Aquino Avenue and Cory Aquino Avenue, to be followed by P560-million Aganan flyover in February.
