Gov. Defensor distributes ‘ART Bikes’

Governor Arthur Defensor will distribute 35 pedicabs, dubbed as ART Bikes, which will be used by 20 barangays in the Province of Iloilo in collecting garbage from households.

Fifteen barangays will receive two pedicabs each while five others will get one each during a turn-over ceremony at the Iloilo Provincial Capitol lobby at 9 am tomorrow.

Barangays in the province were required to come up with a three-year solid waste management plan, a materials recovery facility, a communal/herbal garden and a vermi-composting facility.

Those that will receive two pedicabs each have complied with at least three of the four requirements while those that will get one have complied with two requirements.

ART Bike stands for “Aton Responsilidad palibot Tinlo-an, Buligay Itib-ong, Kauswagan E-sulong.”

The distribution of the ART Bikes, which cost P4,000 each, is part of the Solid Waste Management Program of the Province of Iloilo.

The sidecars of the ART Bikes were fabricated by trainees of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) in Western Visayas.

TESDA Regional Director June Tamayo and Atty. Arturo Cangrejo, OIC of the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO), will assist Defensor in turning over the ART Bikes.
