Guimaras records first local COVID-19 case

The island province of Guimaras is Covid-free no more as it recorded its first local case of Coronavirus Disease 2019.

In a COVID-19 Case Bulletin No. 124 released by the Department of Health Regional Office 6 on Tuesday, the patient is a 22-year-old male from Buenavista, Guimaras who is now admitted at St. Paul’s Hospital in Iloilo City.

According to Dr. Glen Alonsabe, chief epidemiologist of DOH-6, the patient works as a service crew in one of the establishments in Iloilo City. He was swabbed after exhibiting symptoms of the disease, and a positive RT-PCR result was released today.

Based on the initial information, the patient was able to go home to Guimaras last July 15 and 16. Contact tracing is now ongoing in Guimaras and Iloilo City.

As of July 28, DOH-6 reported 17 new cases of COVID-19 in Western Visayas, bringing the total number of cases in the region to 1,158. Of the new cases, five are Locally Stranded Individuals (LSIs), three are repatriated Overseas Filipino Workers and nine are local cases, including the one in Guimara
.
Of the total number, 513 cases remain active, 629 have recovered while 16 have died.
