The redeveloped Central and Terminal Markets are more than just places to buy and sell — they are thoughtfully designed spaces that blend culture with modern convenience. With upgraded facilities, eco-friendly systems, and architecture that honors history, these markets are set to become not only hubs of trade but also symbols of progress for the city.

Accessibility has been placed at the heart of the redevelopment. The markets will offer spacious parking areas, making visits more convenient for customers and vendors alike, including spaces dedicated for persons with disabilities, along with motorcycle slots. Freight and passenger elevators ensure that goods and people can move with ease, while stainless steel countertops in the wet section promote hygiene and durability.

To make shopping more convenient, vendors are now grouped per zone, making it easier for customers to find what they need and improving the overall flow of market activity. Dedicated Releasing and Dispatching Units in both the mall and market sides also ensure smoother logistics and operations.

Sustainability is another key feature of the new markets. With rainwater harvesting and wastewater treatment systems in place, water is conserved and reused efficiently. A shared Material Recovery Facility (MRF) further supports waste reduction by ensuring proper segregation and recycling. These initiatives not only make operations cleaner but also reflect a strong commitment to greener practices that benefit the whole community.

The design of the markets also strikes a balance between tradition and innovation. Skylights allow natural light to flood the interiors, reducing energy use while creating a brighter atmosphere. Natural ventilation, supported by exhaust and supply fans, makes the environment cooler and more comfortable for both vendors and shoppers.

Modern technology also plays an important role. Smart meters have been installed to help manage energy consumption efficiently, and the Terminal Market will have an e-bike charging station — a nod to the growing need for sustainable transport options.

Behind these developments is the strong collaboration between the local government and SM Prime Holdings under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) program. Through this partnership, the markets have been revitalized with modern facilities while preserving their cultural and historical essence, showing how private and public sectors can work hand in hand to uplift communities.

All these enhancements make the Central and Terminal Markets more than just centers of commerce. They are spaces designed for people — convenient, sustainable, and respectful of heritage. They reflect the city’s vision of progress, strengthened by SM’s support through the PPP framework, ensuring that these markets remain vibrant and relevant for generations to come.
