Treñas: Iloilo City is ready to accept LSIs

Iloilo City to accept LSIs

While the province had asked for a temporary halt in sending of locally stranded individuals to Iloilo, City Mayor Jerry Treñas said that the metropolis is ready to accept them.

In an interview over Agenda program of One News, Treñas said that the city has sufficient quarantine facilities to accommodate returning LSIs.

“We are ready for them, we will accept them. We will place them in our quarantine facilities and test them immediately upon arrival and we will feed them three times a day. As long as we still have beds available for them we will continue to accept LSIs,” Treñas said.

Treñas added that he understands the situation of these LSIs who long to be home with their families after being stranded for months while the country is under quarantine.

Iloilo City has a total of 515 beds intended for LSIs: 82 in Jubilee Hall, 85 in Iloilo Central Elementary School, 60 in Lapaz Elementary School, 96 in Baluarte Elementary School, 152 in Mandurriao Elementary School and 40 in Mabini Elementary School.

As of July 16, only 40 beds are occupied while 475 are still available.

Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) ordered a moratorium on travel of LSIs for two weeks, as requested by local governments in Western Visayas who cited the full capacity of quarantine facilities.

The moratorium was lifted July 15.
