Iloilo City eyes Good Governance Seal

Seal of Good Local Governance validators in Iloilo City.

The Iloilo City Government underwent the 2109 Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) regional validation at City Hall Penthouse 1 on May 6, 2019.

“The purpose of this validation is not only to validate if we have complied with all the criteria set by the DILG, but this is also a way to know how what are the things that we, as an LGU, need to do in order to improve our services to the people,” Mayor Jose Espinosa III said.

Validators Cherryl Tacda and Josephine Firmase were welcomed by Espinosa, City Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) head Atty. Ferdinand Panes, and City Hall department heads and chiefs of offices.

The SGLG is an assessment which Local Government Units (LGUs) need to pass the seven criteria. These are Financial Administration, Disaster Preparedness, Social Protection, Peace and Order, Business-Friendliness and Competitiveness, Environmental Protection, and Tourism, Culture and the Arts.

“There are indicators in these areas. I have high hopes that for this year, Iloilo City will pass it and hopefully the DILG regional office will recommend us for the national assessment,” Panes said.

He said the indicators include how the City Government utilize the Internal Revenue Allotment (IRA), compliance of PWD ramps and toilets, utilization of Local Disaster Risk Reduction Management Fund (LDRRMF), approval of 10-year solid waste management plan, convening of Peace and Order Council, and if the city is a finalist to Business-Friendly LGUs award, among others.

“Once we pass and become an SGLG awardee, we will be qualified for the financial assistance loans since we will get the Seal of Good Financial Housekeeping. The city will also receive the Performance Challenge Fund worth P5million or P7million in the form of projects,” Panes added.

In a Memorandum Circular No. 2019-44, the national assessment for those that passed the regional assessment will be done from June 3-August 30, 2019. (Merianne Grace Ereñeta/Iloilo City PIO)
