City mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said the project positively showcases what Iloilo City is today in giving comfort and convenience to the passengers crossing Iloilo and Negros and at the same time, and added boost to the tourism industry.

“The city continues to develop everyday and lots of work remain to be done in order to showcase the city as the premier city in this part of the country,” Mabilog said during the inaugural rite.

Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) Port Manager Rosenda Sumagaysay said the whole project is the result of efforts of Ilonggo Senate President Franklin M. Drilon and the Iloilo River Development Council to transfer the port services to the other side of the river and give a world class fastcraft terminal to commuters.

The fastcraft terminal complex in Lapuz was constructed three years ago by the PPA.

The passenger terminal was expanded this year, thereby making available an open reception hall for passengers and well-wishers, baggage claim area, ticket booths, three units comfort room, wash area, refreshment with women’s lounge, port integrated clearance office for other government agencies, passenger helpdesk and bay loading areas for taxis and PUJs.

Sumagasay said the extension area will protect the passengers and well-wisher from rain and direct sunlight.

After they bought their tickets, their luggages will undergo a scanner check before they are allowed to enter the inner terminal building to wait for their respective fastcraft.

The June 1 inauguration of the expanded reception hall coincides with the 39th anniversary celebration of the PPA Project Management Office for Panay and Guimaras on June 1. [via PNA]
