Beyond the cash prize, the grand champion of this year’s Dinagyang Festival Tribe Competition (Open Category) will receive an additional incentive from the Iloilo City Government in the form of an infrastructure project for their school.
Mayor Raisa S. Treñas announced the incentive during a press conference this morning. She emphasized the city’s commitment to supporting the educational institutions behind the competing tribes.
“We pledge to give an infrastructure project to the school of the winning tribe. The project, equivalent in value to their cash prize, will be based on the actual needs of the school,” Mayor Treñas said.
This year’s seven competing tribes are Tribu Bulawanon sang Molo from Molo District; Tribu Ilonganon of Jalandoni Memorial National High School; Tribu Taga Baryo from Bo. Obrero, Lapuz; Tribu Salognon of Jaro National High School; Tribu Ilayanhon of Graciano Lopez Jaena Elementary School; Tribu Pan-ay of Fort San Pedro National High School; and Tribu Paghidaet of La Paz National High School.
She said the assistance may come in various forms, such as classroom improvement, facility upgrades, or learning resource enhancements, depending on the priority requirements identified by the beneficiary school.
Funding for this additional prize will be sourced from the city’s Special Education Fund (SEF).
Mayor Treñas added that the initiative aims to ensure that the success of Dinagyang tribes translates into tangible and lasting benefits for students, teachers, and the wider school community. (Iloilo City PIO)
