The Iloilo City Health Office (ICHO) continues its vigorous campaign for better oral hygiene as it celebrates National Oral Health Month this February.

With a focus on the younger generation, the ICHO dental division recently launched the “Search for the Orally Fit Child,” a competitive yet educational initiative spanning the nine districts of Iloilo City.

To identify the city’s best examples of dental health, preliminary screenings were meticulously conducted from February 2 to February 12, engaging parents and children in understanding the importance of maintaining a healthy smile.

In a unified display of commitment to oral hygiene, the office also spearheaded the “Sabayang Pagsisipilyo” project on the afternoon of February 12.

This citywide simultaneous toothbrushing activity served as a practical demonstration for children across all districts, reinforcing the habit of proper oral care as a foundation for overall wellness. By bringing the activity directly to communities, the ICHO emphasized that preventive care starts with simple, daily consistency.

On February 19, the excitement reaches its peak as the ICHO conducts the final screening for the Search for the Orally Fit Child. Organizers are seeing a high level of engagement, with an estimated 350 children expected to attend today’s proceedings. Expert dental practitioners are evaluating the finalists to determine who best embodies the standards of oral health excellence.

The month-long festivities will reach their grand conclusion on February 26 during the Culminating and Awarding Ceremony, where the winners will be recognized for their exemplary dental health, serving as inspiration for the entire Ilonggo community.

“This campaign reminds us nga ang good oral health indi lang para sa ngipon kundi para man sa overall health, supporting better nutrition, confidence, social interaction, school and work performance, kag productivity sa adlaw-adlaw,” Mayor Raisa Trenas said.
