Iloilo City looking for new cemetery site

Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog here admitted he is looking for at least a hectare lot within the city jurisdiction as site for a new city public cemetery as total rehabilitation is set for the public cemetery along Tanza and Delgado streets.

The city government is maintaining three public cemeteriesthat include the cemeteries in Tanza, La Paz district and portion of Jaro cemetery.

On the other hand, the columbarium project at the Tanzacemetery was put on temporary hold and Mabilog said there is a need for adialogue with the families of the dead to get their consensus on the project.

Mabilog said the public cemeteries are open to the publicand policemen and other law enforcers will be deployed at the cemeteries forthe two-day All Saints Day and All Souls Day celebration.

The city chief executive also reminds everyone on theprohibition of sound system, radio sets, hard drinks and beer, bladed weaponsand firearms inside the cemetery on November 1-2, 2013. By Lydia Pendon.
