Mabilog's "Kwarta sa Basura" program for pedicab drivers

Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog’s “Kuarta sa Basura – Waste Plastic Recycling Program”  is now catching fire among metro pedicab drivers and their respective associations.

The point of the program is to encourage pedicab drivers from all over the city to collect plastic trash (plastic bags, plastic bottles, broken plastic chairs), sell them to junk dealers for recycling and the amount of sale they make from the transaction is matched by Mayor Jed. The more plastic waste collected, the less chances these will clog the city’s drainage mains and generate flash floods.

Last November 4 at Barangay Rizal Pala-Pala I, the Federation of Iloilo City Trisikad Drivers Association became richer by some P16,000 when Mayor Jed doubled the value of the plastic waste collected by the pedicab drivers under the aegis of the federation. The drivers collected plastic waste with an estimated value of about P8,000.

Mayor Jed is also implementing “Kuarta sa Basura” among the thousands of beneficiaries of the 4Ps Program in Iloilo City.
