MORE Power distances itself from vaccine ‘fake news’

More Electric and Power Corporation (MORE Power) sought to distance itself Wednesday from the video clip of a talk show discussing COVID-19 vaccines which has its logo as backdrop. The Department of Health (DOH) tagged the information on the clip as fake news.

In a disclaimer posted online, MORE Power said that it “is not in any way associated on the wrong information tagged as fake news by the Department of Health particularly published on a local talk show ‘Mug Session'”.

The talk show had a local doctor who does not support vaccination as its guest.

The power distribution utility explained that having its logo as a backdrop “does not necessarily imply our endorsement of the views expressed by them. Plain and simple, MORE Power is just one of the sponsors and therefore has no control over the nature and content of the said program.”

“As we face this pandemic, MORE Power has been very helpful to those seeking our support including public information programs hosted by the local media to aid them get through this current crisis, but we take no responsibility for, and will not be liable for, any incorrect or inaccurate information, whether issued by them or by their program guests. Any reliance by its viewers place on such information is therefore strictly at their own risk.”

A partner of Iloilo City vs COVID-19 crisis

Mayor Jerry P. Trenas has repeatedly lauded the efforts of MORE Power in assisting the local government, especially in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic.

During the nationwide lockdown last year, MORE Power donated almost P1 million worth of facemasks, alcohol, hand sanitizers and acetate as aid for frontliners. The DU followed it up with 500 rapid test kits on COVID-19 to the Iloilo City Government.

Recently, MORE Power donated generator sets for vaccination centers and energized checkpoints for border control. The Razon-led company also facilitated the procurement of Moderna vaccines for the Philippine Chamber of Commerce (PCCI) – Iloilo Chapter.

“I would like to express my utmost gratitude for MORE Power for taking the extra mile in showing compassion to Ilonggos especially during this time of the pandemic,” Trenas said.

“As I have always said, MORE Power is not just a distribution company of electricity. It is a partner of the City Government for the development of our beloved city.”
