A major boost to accessible healthcare has arrived in Western Visayas as PhilHealth officially launches its enhanced YAKAP-GAMOT program in Iloilo City—bringing with it a headline benefit that could ease the burden for thousands of families: up to ₱20,000 worth of free outpatient medicines annually.
Unveiled at Casa Real, Iloilo Provincial Capitol, the rollout marks the region’s inclusion in PhilHealth’s expanded primary care initiative, following earlier launches in Manila and Cebu. The program aligns with the national push for more inclusive and preventive healthcare under the “Bagong Pilipinas” agenda.
At the heart of this initiative is the GAMOT (Guaranteed and Accessible Medications for Outpatient Treatment) component, which significantly expands the scope of PhilHealth’s previous Konsulta package.
₱20,000 Annual Free Medicines
For many Ilonggos managing long-term illnesses, the cost of maintenance medicines can quickly add up. Under YAKAP-GAMOT, registered members and their dependents can now access up to ₱20,000 worth of free medicines every year—a substantial relief for households dealing with chronic conditions.
The benefit covers a wide range of essential medications, including:
- Hypertension and cardiovascular drugs
- Diabetes and anti-dyslipidemia medicines
- Asthma and COPD treatments
- Antimicrobials and antithrombotics
PhilHealth also announced that the program will expand to 75 types of essential drugs by 2026, further reducing out-of-pocket healthcare expenses for patients who require continuous treatment.

Preventive Care at the Forefront
While the ₱20,000 medicine benefit stands out, YAKAP is designed to go beyond treatment and focus on early detection and prevention.
Members can access free cancer screening services at accredited hospitals, including:
- Mammography and breast ultrasound for breast cancer
- Alpha-fetoprotein tests for liver cancer
- Low-dose chest CT scans for lung cancer
- Colonoscopy for colorectal cancer
According to PhilHealth Region VI Head Lazaro T. Tabsing, the program aims to ensure that no Filipino delays medical care due to financial constraints. By strengthening primary and outpatient services, the initiative encourages earlier diagnosis and better health outcomes.
How to Avail of the YAKAP-GAMOT Benefits
To start benefiting from the program, members must first enroll in YAKAP and choose an accredited primary care provider or clinic. Registration can be completed through:
- The eGov PH mobile app
- PhilHealth Member Portal
- Any PhilHealth Local Health Insurance Office
Once enrolled, patients undergo an initial consultation and health assessment with their chosen provider. If medication is prescribed, a Unique Prescription Security Code (UPSC) will be issued, which can be presented at any accredited GAMOT pharmacy to claim the medicines—free of charge.
Strengthening Healthcare Systems in Iloilo
To support the program’s rollout, PhilHealth is working closely with local healthcare providers in Iloilo to ensure seamless service delivery. Clinics are required to meet digital readiness standards, including stable internet connectivity and fully functional Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems, alongside trained physicians equipped to use the GAMOT prescribing platform.
With the launch of YAKAP-GAMOT in Western Visayas, Iloilo takes another step forward in making healthcare more accessible, preventive, and financially manageable. For many Ilonggo families, the promise of ₱20,000 in free medicines each year is not just a benefit—it’s a meaningful step toward healthier, more secure communities. (Source: Philhealth Region VI)
