Waiting sheds across Iloilo City are set to receive a fresh look and improved lighting as the Iloilo City Government, MORE Electric and Power Corporation (MORE Power), and Boysen Philippines officially launched Project I-SHED on February 27, 2026.
The initiative was formally inaugurated through a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by MORE Power President and CEO Roel Castro, Iloilo City Mayor Raisa Treñas, and Engineer Keith Insular of Boysen Philippines. The first rehabilitated waiting shed marks the beginning of improvements for 48 waiting sheds across the city that are scheduled for repair and upgrading.
Under the project, waiting sheds will undergo roof repairs, repainting, and installation of lighting fixtures, ensuring that commuters have cleaner, brighter, and more comfortable spaces while waiting for public transport. The upgrades aim to benefit students, workers, and other commuters who rely on these shelters for protection from the sun and rain.
Mayor Treñas expressed her appreciation to MORE Power for the initiative, which coincides with the company’s sixth anniversary in Iloilo City.
“Gusto ko magpasalamat sa MORE Power for this milestone. Sa ila nga ika-6 ka tuig diri sa Iloilo City, wala gid nila ginkalimtan nga maghatag sang isa ka manami nga proyekto—ang pag-ilaw sang 48 waiting sheds sa aton syudad. Indi lang ini repainting kag pag-ayo sang aton mga waiting sheds; simbolo man ini sang padayon nga pagtiniruhay sang MORE Power kag Iloilo City Government para sa progreso sang syudad,” Treñas said.

She added that reliable and affordable electricity has been a key factor in attracting investments to the city.
“Kun may mga bisita diri sa Iloilo City, isa lang gid ang ginahambal ko: the growth of this city is because of MORE Power. Wala kita naka-attract sang investors kun wala kita sang stable kag affordable power. On behalf of the Iloilo City Government and the Ilonggos, salamat gid MORE Power,” she added.
Aside from lighting and repainting, MORE Power also committed to installing benches in the waiting sheds to further improve commuter comfort.
For his part, Castro emphasized that the company’s role goes beyond providing electricity, highlighting MORE Power’s broader commitment to community development.
“When we entered Iloilo six years ago, we made a commitment not only to bring electricity but to become a partner in progress for the city. I am happy that this commitment has been met, and we are even going beyond it,” Castro said.
He noted that after completing its initial five-year development plan, MORE Power is now working toward enhancing Iloilo’s power system into a modern, smart-grid distribution network, which will further support economic growth in the city.
Castro also cited the company’s other community initiatives, including fingerling dispersal along the Iloilo River, mangrove tree growing activities, urban farming programs, and the recent Farmers Congress. Project I-SHED, he added, is another way for the company to support the daily needs of Ilonggos.
Under the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for the project, MORE Power will handle the repair works and provide the necessary materials, Boysen Philippines will sponsor the paint, while the Iloilo City Government will oversee maintenance and cover electrical consumption.
Once completed, the improved waiting sheds will not only provide better shelter during the wet and dry seasons but will also offer safer, well-lit spaces for commuters, particularly students traveling at night.
Through Project I-SHED, the partnership between the local government and the private sector continues to deliver practical improvements that enhance everyday life for Ilonggos.
