PWD students get P5,000 educational allowance

Sixteen students with disabilities from various colleges and universities were given P5,000 allowance each by Mayor Jose Espinosa III during City Hall’s Monday flag ceremony January 22.

There were four recipients from University of Iloilo, three each from Iloilo Science and Technology University and Iloilo Baptist College, two each from West Visayas State University and Western Institute of Technology, and one each from University of San Agustin and Colegio de San Jose.

The City Government, through City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), in coordination with Office of Persons with Disability Affairs (OPDA), has been providing qualified PWD students with educational assistance which can help support their academic activities.

“This program is intended for those who are willing to pursue their studies despite of poverty especially those who are graduating PWD students. The allowances given to them are a very big help since they always have a hard time looking for source of income because of their condition.

“We are always thankful for all the City Government’s help for we really feel that we’re welcome in this society,” said OPDA head Blesilda Mabilog.
