RDC-6 approves Ungka flyover

Soon, we shall see another flyover at intersection of old Iloilo-Capiz road and Circumferential Road in Ungka, Pavia as the Regional Development Council Region 6 has approved the construction of the project.

In a meeting held in Antique, the RDC announced that the proposed 282 lm – modular steel Ungka flyover is estimated to cost P400 million.

It covers a 7.5 lm wide and 195 lm long-modular steel flyover consisting of five spans, two abutments and four piers as well as 87 lm- road approaches (both sides), or a total of 282 linear meters.

Resolution No. 14 Series of 2014, which was approved by the Executive Committee of the RDC-6 during its last meeting, states that there is an urgent need to modify the flow of traffic along Iloilo-Capiz Road.

“This area, particularly at the intersection of the Iloilo City Circumferential Road and the Pavia- Sta Section, has an annual average daily traffic of 22,800 vehicles.”

The project is expected to ease vehicular congestion; increase traffic capacity in Iloilo City and improve business opportunities, productivity and job generation provided by investors and business locators.

“The public hearings conducted by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) with the home owners, transport groups and the local government unit of Pavia yielded favorable results,” the resolution states.

The Iloilo Provincial Government also showed support to the project through its PDC-Executive Committee Resolution No. 2014-05 endorsing the construction of the proposed flyover.

“During the construction phase, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will coordinate with the Iloilo Provincial Government in the preparation and implementation of a Traffic Management Plan.”
