Ilonggos can look forward to more vibrant and colorful heritage and commercial buildings across City Proper area with the upcoming repainting project in partnership with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA).

Mayor Raisa S. Treñas shared this good news in line with heritage tourism promotion through the Iloilo City Hall Press Corps, in a press conference after the flag ceremony today. The project is seen to breathe new life into the city’s historic and tourism-related and even commercial structures.

“This will make sure nga aton City Proper will bring in more tourists. Ang aton goal buhion naton ang aton City Proper area,” said Mayor Raisa.

A Memorandum of Agreement will be inked by both parties to formalize the project. Treñas said delegates from NCCA will arrive in Iloilo City on July 13 for preliminaries for the MOA.

“I am very grateful, excited and thankful to NCCA for this project. This will be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity offered to us,” the lady mayor added.

As part of the ongoing preparations, the City Engineer’s Office and the City Architect’s Office are conducting surface measurements of the buildings to determine the required amount of paint in gallons.

“Nagapangayo man ko bulig kon may mga architects and engineers who are willing to help kay we need their help. Kay as much kon pila ang ila ma compute, ihatag gid nila sa aton. So nagapanawagan gid ako kay para gid ini sa aton syudad,” she said.

Complementing this heritage revitalization is the planned “Everyday Night Market,” a grassroots economic revival effort that activates community spaces each evening to support small businesses.

This nightly marketplace is particularly timely, aligning with the reopening of the redeveloped Iloilo Central and Terminal Markets. (GSTayona/Iloilo City PIO)
