SM City Iloilo relaunches much improved bike parking facilities

SM City Iloilo has heeded the call of Ilonggo cyclists for a more bike-friendly facilities by putting up new bike racks with a bike repair station in a much better location at Southpoint area.

Mall Manager Gilbert Domingo led the simple relaunching ceremony early morning of Saturday, together with SM Regional Operations Manager for Visayas 3 Girlie Liboon and other mall executives. Iloilo City Councilor Jay Treñas, a biking advocate, graced the event together with other bikers representing the cycling groups in the city and province.

“We are happy to show you our new bike racks in this new location, and we are happy to inform you that we have a bike repair area complete with basic tools you need in case of emergency when you happen to be here in the mall,” Domingo said to the bikers in attendance.

Aside from these bike parking facilities, Domingo also pointed out that they are in partnership with Iloilo City Government, artists group, and other stakeholders in putting up mural across the mall which “highlights the bicycle as means of transportation to help ease traffic flow, lessen carbon emission, and promote a healthy lifestyle.”

Treñas thanked SM City Iloilo for listening to the plea of bikers. “Just like the City, you have leveled your efforts. We are very thankful for putting up repair station, and I’m pretty sure that the cyclists are happy with what you have provided,” Treñas said.

SM’s initiatives for cyclists are very important especially that the city is gearing up to become the ‘Bike Capital’ of the country, he added.

With SM’s bike-friendly facilities, customers can look forward to a safe, convenient, and enjoyable biking experience. Importantly, SM aims to support inclusive mobility and hopes to encourage more people to take up biking as a healthy and environment-friendly alternative means of transportation beyond the pandemic, which is part of SM’s Green Movement campaign promoting clean, green, sustainable communities.
