For many Ilonggo families, the gradual changes were heartbreaking. A treasured nanay who suddenly couldn’t recall the recipe of her apo’s favorite food, a beloved tatay who grew increasingly confused calling names of his children, or the anxiety felt when a loved one’s memory began to slip away. Recognizing the profound need for a dedicated space to address these painful moments, The Medical City (TMC) Iloilo officially launched ‘The Memory Studio’ last October 3, 2025 – a new, specialized program dedicated to providing comprehensive and holistic care for patients with dementia and other cognitive disorders.
The holistic care at ‘The Memory Studio’ comprises neurologists, geriatricians, psychiatrists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, and allied healthcare professionals working collaboratively to provide personalized treatment plans and essential patient and family counseling.
In partnership with The B Academy PH, an Iloilo-based family technology company established by occupational therapists, special needs educators, and early intervention specialists, TMC Iloilo’s Memory Studio Program is designed to build confidence in maintaining cognitive health through comprehensive assessment, evaluation, diagnosis, and personalized treatment. As more and more seniors experience memory loss and related conditions, this program stands as a beacon of hope for Iloilo’s elderly community.
It offers early screening, personalized care plans, and hands-on support for families who often feel overwhelmed. At its heart is the training, coaching and guidance of caregivers, empowering them to provide compassionate care at home.
Through these services, TMC Iloilo Memory Studio is committed to giving older Ilonggos and their loved ones not just help, but understanding, comfort, and the dignity they deserve as they face dementia together. The program offers, Dementia Staging and Assessment, Dementia Care Intervention, Primary Carer Coaching and Training, Access to ‘KATAWHAY Meditation Platform’ – a mental health support for Caregiver and Dementia Patient, and Case Management.
The overall approach of the program includes physical, cognitive, and psychosocial interventions aimed to delay the overall decline of the person with dementia, allowing them to enjoy better quality of life.
With dementia emerging as a growing health concern not only globally but also in the Philippines and with only limited programs and facilities currently available in the region, this initiative aims to promote early detection and slow the progression of the condition at its onset. The program also prioritizes coaching and training for local caregivers to strengthen their capacity to provide proper care and support for individuals living with dementia across Western Visayas.
