Trenas bares legislative record, to advocate worthy causes

Iloilo City Lone District Representative Jerry P. Trenas has authored 32 House measures and co-authored nine other legislative bills in the first six months of the current 16th Congress for the benefit of his constituency and the entire country.

Among the bills principally authored by Trenas are on the proposals for the further institutionalization and strengthening of the Metro Iloilo-Guimaras Economic Development Council, establishment of basic technical and vocational courses for differently abled persons in all school districts, and declaration of August 25 of every year as a special non-working holiday in the city of Iloilo to celebrate the “Iloilo City Charter Day”.

Also included are measures for the exemption of the Cities Development Initiatives for Asia or its successors from taxes and members of its scientific and technical staff from payment of income and value added tax, creation of the Office of the State Counsel in the Department of Justice and for other purposes, penalizing the hoarding of legal tender coins of the Philippine currency, authorization for the Department of Public Works and Highways multi-year flood control program, creation of five additional Regional Trial Court branches for Iloilo City, and increasing the minimum salary grade level of public school teachers from salary grade 11 to salary grade 19.

The Iloilo City solon also co-authored House measures of his colleagues, among which are the bills on providing for a Magna Carta for the poor, granting additional benefits to solo parents, establishing MARINA as the single maritime administration responsible for the enforcement of international agreements/conventions governing maritime global professionals, and establishing the Northern Negros Natural Park protected area.

He also co-authored a House resolution acknowledging and extending sincere appreciation to the international community, organizations and individuals for giving aid to the Philippines in the aftermath of super typhoon Yolanda.

Trenas said it is his duty to make sure that his legislative district is strongly represented in the House of Representatives and that he will continue to be an advocate for measures advancing good governance, environmental protection, tourism development, local government empowerment, basic education enhancement, and many other worthy causes.
