Treñas cancels Iloilo City classes starting March 16

Class Suspension Iloilo City

Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas is suspending classes in all levels in Iloilo City starting Monday, March 16. This is a precautionary measure against the spread of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19)

Treñas made the announcement in a press briefing after meeting with his executive assistants, officials of Department of Education, Bureau of Fire Protection and City Health Office.

“Today, we will release an executive order for the cancellation of classes to all levels for the safety of all and for us to sanitize all the schools,” Treñas said.

Students are also banned in going to malls during the period, he added.

“This is not a lockdown on Iloilo, we are just calling off classes for the next 14 days. We are requesting malls to reduce their activities.”

According to Treñas, the suspension of classes is necessary to mitigate the spread of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) as social distancing is impossible to implement in schools.

Treñas also announced that no official travel is allowed for City Hall employees and no visitors will be accepted in the City Hall starting Monday, unless it is a very important transaction.
