WVMC temporarily suspends new admission of patients

Western Visayas Medical Center - WVMC

Western Visayas Medical Center (WVMC) announced that they will temporarily suspend the admission of new patients in their facilities starting Saturday, August 22.

In an ‘important advisory’ posted online, WVMC said that it will conduct a thorough cleaning and disinfecting of various offices after an increasing number of its health care workers were infected with Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). Some of its wards were also in full capacity. Here’s the full statement of the hospital:

“Due to the increasing number of confirmed COVID-19 cases among its health care workers, and the non-availability of beds in the various wards, the WVMC is suspending NEW admissions of patients both COVID-19 and Non-COVID-19 cases effective immediately until further notice. This move will give way for WVMC to conduct thorough cleaning and disinfecting of various offices.”

“Current patients will be properly managed until all are discharged, and vacated wards be totally decontaminated. The WVMC Emergency Room shall only respond to extreme emergency cases until the patient is stabilized and ready for referral to another health care institution.

“The move to temporarily suspend the admission of new patients in WVMC is already disseminated among District Hospitals under the Iloilo Hospital Management Office of Dr. Cynthia Ng, and the Chiefs of Hospitals of the Western Visayas Sanitarium and the Don Jose S. Monfort Medical Center Extension Hospital.

“Anyone who wants to avail of a doctor’s advice, he or she may consider using the numbers of the different medical clinics posted at www.wvmc.doh.gov.ph.

“We hope for your understanding as WVMC is making all efforts to stop the increase of the confirmed cases among hospital personnel and prevent the spread of the COVID-19 disease in the Community. In this health emergency may the public continue to cooperate in the observance of the minimum health standards required during this Pandemic.”
