Young artists depict zero hunger world in posters

Eighteen pupils from the different public and private schools in Western Visayas created posters adhering to this year’s World Food Day (WFD) celebration theme “Our Actions are our Future. A #ZeroHunger world by 2030 is possible.”

Franzene Jae Nobleza, 11, of Ticud Elementary School in La Paz, Iloilo City emerged as champion in the WFD On-the-Spot Regional Poster Making Contest held on Sep. 18 at SM City Iloilo.

Aside from receiving ₱5,000 cash, Nobleza’s winning poster will also be judged in the national level on Oct. 3 at Department of Agriculture (DA) Central Office.

“We feel very accomplished after the win, and we are thankful to all the persons who have supported us. Despite the short period of practice, I and my contestant were determined to win this time after our last win in 2013. It’s not about winning, it’s more about passion in art,” shared Jonathan Jaleco, Nobleza’s coach.

Meanwhile, Aisach Jasher Beronio of Cabatuan Central Elem. School and Khyle Columna of Oton Central Elem. School secured the second and third slots, respectively.

“The participants were able to reflect their ideas on what actions to be taken in creating a zero hunger way of life,” said Zarlina B. Cuello, chief of the Admin and Finance Division of the DA Regional Field Office 6.

She underscored the importance of attaining food security in the growing global population.

James Earl Ogatis, DA 6 regional information officer, said that the WFD Poster Making Contest is being conducted by DA every year in partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd) and Food and Agriculture Organization. “This is open to grades 4 to 6 pupils enrolled in public and DepEd-accredited private schools,” he added.

He urged the participants and coaches to continue hone their craft. “Region 6 is a consistent national winner for the past 15 years, it was only last 2017 that we failed to win. This year, let’s regain our title as one of the unbeatable regions in this competition.” #(SMHToreno/ DA-RAFIS 6)
