More than 8,000 Ilonggo pregnant women and children have benefited from Iloilo City’s comprehensive nutrition initiatives, with I-SUSTANSYA and LUSOG-LIIT serving as the city’s flagship interventions against malnutrition.
Implemented by the City Health Office through the City Nutrition Program, these initiatives reflect the city government’s sustained commitment during Mayor Raisa Treรฑas’ first year in office to combat malnutrition and improve the health and well-being of vulnerable sectors.
Through the I-SUSTANSYA program, 3,667 pregnant women received micronutrient supplements to support maternal health and healthy pregnancies, while 4,803 children were provided with nutritious meals, including the locally produced Rice-Mongo-Sesame Blend and other nutritious food supplements for supplementary feeding programs, to promote healthy growth and development.
Launched on September 15, 2025, I-SUSTANSYA addresses malnutrition by promoting food security and delivering quality nutrition services to vulnerable residents, particularly pregnant women and young children.
LUSOG-LIIT, on the other hand, was launched on September 12, 2025, which provides hot, nutritious meals to children below three years old enrolled in Child Development Centers (CDCs) and Infant-Toddler Early Development (ITED) programs. Since its implementation, the program has conducted 850 feeding sessions, providing regular supplementary meals to 3,131 children to support their healthy growth and development.

Supporting the city’s nutrition initiatives is the Iloilo City Nutrition Center, inaugurated in May 2025, with its food production facility becoming operational on September 15, 2025.
Located in City Proper, the center is the first local government-initiated facility dedicated to producing enhanced nutribun (e-Nutribun), Rice-Mongo-Sesame Blend, and other nutritious food supplements for complementary feeding programs.
The facility initially serves 534 children aged 6 to 59 months identified as underweight or wasted based on the 2025 first-quarter Operation Timbang Plus results. Each child receives two sachets of the locally produced Rice-Mongo-Sesame Blend daily.
To ensure a steady supply of nutritious food supplements, the facility produces 1,282 sachets every day, including a 20-percent buffer to accommodate newly identified beneficiaries. The Rice-Mongo-Sesame Blend is distributed through I-SUSTANSYA to support the growth and development of young children across the city.

These sustained investments in nutrition have translated into measurable improvements in child health.
From 2021 to 2025, Iloilo City consistently improved the nutritional status of children aged 0โ59 months.
Among nearly 38,000 preschool children regularly monitored under the city’s nutrition programs, the 2025 data showed continued declines in all major malnutrition indicators compared with 2024.
The prevalence of stunting declined from 2.0 percent to 1.4 percent, wasting decreased from 0.6 percent to 0.4 percent, while the rate of overweight and obesity dropped from 1.4 percent to 1.1 percent, reflecting the positive impact of the city’s comprehensive nutrition interventions.
These achievements underscore Iloilo City’s continuing commitment to investing in evidence-based nutrition programs that give every Ilonggo child a healthier start in life while ensuring that mothers also receive the support they need for safe and healthy pregnancies.
