A total of 25,471 senior citizens and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in Iloilo City with hypertension and diabetes are among the target beneficiaries of the MediSen+ Program.
Based on City Health Office (CHO) records as of the second quarter of 2026, of the 40,901 registered senior citizens in the city, 17,675 have hypertension or high blood pressure, while 6,313 have diabetes mellitus.
Meanwhile, among the city’s 6,190 registered PWDs, 1,056 have hypertension and 427 have diabetes.
The program is among the priorities of the administration of Mayor Raisa S. Treñas. MediSen+ will provide free maintenance medicines to qualified senior citizens and PWDs with chronic diseases.
Launched on August 3, 2026, MediSen+ has a ₱20-million allocation from the City Government for the procurement of maintenance medicines. The procurement process is currently underway.
The medicines covered by the program include those for hypertension, diabetes, heart disease, high cholesterol, and other chronic diseases.
Mayor Raisa said MediSen+ will provide significant assistance not only to senior citizens and PWDs but also to their families who shoulder the continuing cost of maintenance medicines.
She also assured that the program will have annual funding, as part of the City Government’s commitment to expanding Ilonggos’ access to free and essential healthcare services. (Iloilo City PIO)
