The Iloilo City Government has started distributing free maintenance medicines under its MediSen+ Program, with senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PWDs) from City Proper as the first beneficiaries on October 29.
Mayor Raisa S. Treñas led the ceremonial distribution, which will be followed by the rollout in other districts of Iloilo City during the first week of November.
To make the program more accessible, particularly to elderly residents with mobility difficulties, the city government will bring the distribution of medicines directly to barangays in succeeding districts.
Treñas said MediSen+ is a personal advocacy inspired by her experience caring for her grandmother.
“Lola’s girl ako. Sang nagamasakit siya, ako gid ang nagabantay kag nagadala sa iya sa hospital. Nahidlaw man ako magpalangga sa mga tigulang,” the mayor said.
She explained that the program aims to help senior citizens and PWDs who need to take maintenance medicines regularly, particularly those managing hypertension and diabetes.
Treñas emphasized the importance of consistent medication to prevent serious complications associated with these illnesses.
More than 8,000 senior citizens and PWDs with hypertension or diabetes have already registered under the program.
The city government has allocated ₱20 million for MediSen+, with medicine distribution to continue according to the schedule for each district.
“Wala naman ko iban nga agenda sa kabuhi ko. Isa man lang ang agenda ko, serbisyuhan ko ang mga Ilonggo,” Treñas said.
The mayor assured that delivering services to all sectors remains a priority of her administration, particularly senior citizens and PWDs who need continued assistance and support.
