Demonstrating strong operational discipline and a commitment to transparency, the Department of Energy (DOE) has recognized MORE Electric and Power Corporation (MORE Power) and Negros Electric and Power Corporation (Negros Power) for their timely and complete compliance with essential reportorial requirements.
The two distribution utilities received plaques of appreciation for their adherence to DOE Department Circular No. DC2023-03-0005, which outlines supplemental policies for the systematic management of reportorial requirements in the electric power industry. The circular ensures accurate and reliable data submission among industry participants, including distribution utilities, for the year 2025.
The plaques, signed by DOE Undersecretary Rowena Cristina L. Guevarra, Ph.D., were formally presented at the Energy Center in Bonifacio Global City.
The recognition underscores the critical role of compliance in an evolving energy landscape marked by rising power demand driven by industrialization, the expansion of renewable energy, and increasing climate-related risks. Accurate and timely reporting enables more effective grid monitoring, helps prevent outages, and supports evidence-based policy development.
MORE Power serves Iloilo City and nearby areas in Iloilo, while Negros Power operates in Central Negros as the region’s sole electric power distributor. Their compliance efforts contribute to the DOE’s data-driven approach to managing the Visayas grid, particularly in the aftermath of El Niño and amid ongoing electrification initiatives.
“Full compliance equips DOE with important insights that may contribute to accelerating projects like grid modernization and renewables rollout,” said Roel Z. Castro, President and CEO of both utilities.
He added that timely reporting helps streamline DOE approvals, reduce delays, and support the advancement of national electrification goals.
As the Philippines works toward achieving full household electrification by 2028 under the DOE’s program, the commitment of utilities like MORE Power and Negros Power sets a strong benchmark for reliability and accountability in the sector.
