Iloilo City mulls MECQ extension until June 30

Mayor Jerry Treñas on COVID-19 updates

The Iloilo City Government will be asking to extend the Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ) status until June 30, 2021 from the National Inter-Agency Task Force (NIATF).

“Based on the recommendation of the COVID Team, we will request that the city remains under MECQ because of rising cases. We already requested additional vaccines to ramp up vaccination process of the residents,” Mayor Jerry Treñas stressed.

The metropolis recorded more than 100 daily cases since May 26.

“The MECQ which limits movements seeks to slow down the spread of Covid-19. Hospitals have reached their capacities and several patients are already on waiting list. Quarantine facilities are also getting full,” Treñas said.

City Hall has hired additional nurses and nursing aides to augment health personnel requirement.

Uniformed personnel were also deployed in hospitals to boost their human resource. (Iloilo City PIO)
