Turn Your Trash Into Points: Iloilo City Launches Smart Recycling Program with Rezbin

Imagine earning discounts, vouchers, or other rewards simply by recycling your plastic bottles and other recyclable waste.

That is exactly what Iloilo City aims to achieve as it rolls out a new technology-driven recycling initiative through a partnership with Rezbin Waste Technology Inc.

Under a newly signed Memorandum of Agreement, 25 Rezbin Stations will soon be installed in strategic locations across Iloilo City, particularly in barangays and schools. The project comes at no cost to the city government and is designed to make recycling easier, more rewarding, and more accessible for Ilonggos.

Instead of throwing recyclable waste into ordinary trash bins, residents can properly segregate and deposit their recyclables at a Rezbin Station. Using the Rezbin mobile app, every qualified deposit earns points that can later be exchanged for discounts, vouchers, and rewards from more than 500 partner establishments nationwide.

These rewards include offers from fast-food chains, pharmacies, health and wellness businesses, accommodations, and various online platforms, giving residents a practical incentive to make recycling part of their daily routine.

Beyond the rewards, the initiative hopes to create lasting behavioral change, especially among students and young people, by encouraging proper waste segregation and responsible disposal habits. The city targets at least 7,500 users as the program expands.

The partnership also supports the implementation of the project, “Closing the Loop: Inclusive and Tech-Enabled Plastic Collection for Sustainable Recycling,” under the EU-Green Economy Partnership with the Philippines.

The Rezbin system does more than reward individual users. It also strengthens Iloilo City’s circular economy by integrating junk shops and waste collectors into the recycling value chain. The Uswag Calajunan Livelihood Association has been proposed as the project’s authorized collector, creating additional livelihood opportunities while ensuring recyclable materials are properly processed instead of ending up in landfills.

The Memorandum of Agreement was signed on June 29, 2026, by Iloilo City Mayor Raisa Treñas, General Services Office Head Engr. Neil Ravena, and Rezbin Waste Technology Inc. Co-Founder and Iloilo Site Manager Martin Cornelius Martirez.

As Iloilo continues to embrace smart and sustainable solutions, the message is clear: waste is no longer just something to throw away. With the Rezbin program, recyclables can become rewards—benefiting residents, supporting livelihoods, and helping build a cleaner, greener Iloilo City.
