ART AS THERAPY: City Health Office conducts therapeutic art workshop to students

Art as Therapy workshop

As a prelude to the first hosting of The Iloilo Summer Arts Festival (ISAF) 2020 on April 3-May 17, a series of art talks were conducted in various public city high schools.

The activities aimed to expose students as part of Mayor Jerry P. Treñas’ initiative to promote art appreciation and awareness among Ilonggos.

Artist Yanie Rose Noble Tuazon, who is also a health education and promotion officer of the City Health Office (CHO), conducted a Therapeutic Arts workshop for mental health and wellness to 30 students of Iloilo City National High School last week.

“The workshop that we did was a combination of creating forms and drawing creativity out of students, at the same time therapeutic arts. One of our advocacies in the CHO is to use art in order to make our young people more mentally resilient,” Tuazon said.

Visual art, through drawing, painting or sketching, as a means to express emotions is considered to create health benefits for healing and well-being. (Beatriz Angelica Pequierda/Iloilo City PIO)
