COVID-19 in WV: 56-year-old in Bacolod positive

Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia reports 1st case of Covid-19.

There is now one confirmed case of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) patient in Western Visayas, a 56-year-old man in Bacolod City.

In an urgent press conference on Friday evening, Mayor Evelio Leonardia said that he got the confirmation after receiving the result of the test sent by Department of Health (DOH) Region 6 Director Dr. Marlyn Convocar.

The first positive case of the fatal disease in Western Visayas is a male who has a travel history in London and arrived in Bacolod last February 29. He is one of the 13 new cases announced by the DOH on Friday afternoon.

Leonardia said that the patient is still confined in a hospital in the city but now in a stable condition.

The city’s top executive has already ordered an intensive contact tracing of persons who had an engagement with the patient.

As of 12 noon today, DOH reported 13 new cases (PH218-PH230) of COVID-19. The total number of cases in the country is now at 230. The DOH also reports one additional death, bringing the total to 18. (Photo screengrab at Aksyonradyo Bacolod video on Facebook)
