Treñas: 6 doctors in Iloilo City private hospital positive for COVID-19

Six medical doctors working in a private hospital in Iloilo City tested positive for Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19), according to Mayor Jerry P. Treñas.

In a post from his official Facebook page, Treñas revealed Sunday that he was informed of the status of the doctors after their results of their reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) were released confirming their infection.

“I was informed that 6 medical doctors from one hospital in Iloilo are positive in the RT-PCR tests. I have coordinated with the medical director and they are doing all the necessary protocols to ensure the safety of everyone. Let us do everything to ensure the safety of everyone- be safe all my beloved Ilonggos!”

The city mayor added that the doctors are from St. Paul’s Hospital Iloilo, a tertiary level general hospital along General Luna street in City Proper district.

“All the doctors come from one hospital, Iloilo St. Paul’s Hospital. Contact tracing is very important,” Treñas said.

In the latest report of Department of Health Region 6 as of Sunday, June 28, there are 26 new COVID-19 cases in the region bringing the total to 274. Of the number, 14 are locally stranded individuals (LSIs), and six are returning overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).

No statement yet from the DOH-6 if the six remaining cases are the doctors that Treñas mentioned.UPDATE: Dr. Maria Sophia Pulmones, spokesperson of DOH-6, confirmed that the remaining six are the doctors from St. Paul’s Hospital Iloilo.

Total active COVID-19 cases in Western Visayas is now at 138, with 25 recoveries and 11 deaths.
