The Iloilo City Government, through the Office of the City Environment and Natural Resources Officer (OCENRO), continues to advance the adoption of renewable energy among Ilonggo households, reaching 173 families through its community-driven initiative, SunRISE: Sustainable Solar Solutions.
SunRISE is one of the flagship programs under Mayor Raisa Treñas’ RISE-To-ACTION Framework. It aims to combat climate change, lower household electricity costs, and reduce the city’s overall carbon footprint.
The program encourages the adoption of renewable energy, particularly solar power, by offering real property tax incentives, including a 20 percent discount on the basic real property tax for qualified applicants.
SunRISE is anchored on City Regulation Ordinance No. 2009-358 and its Implementing Rules and Regulations issued in 2023.
Launched on September 16, 2025, the program continues to gain momentum. Based on the latest performance data, or “resibo,” released by OCENRO, a total of 84 applications have been processed as of June 2026 from households seeking to avail themselves of the incentive. Overall, 173 households have been reached through field validation activities, while 74 certifications have been issued to approved applicants.
To ensure compliance with program requirements and standards, OCENRO has also conducted 45 inspections. In addition, 504 informational flyers have been distributed to strengthen public awareness and encourage more households to transition to clean and renewable energy sources.
Carrying the tagline, “Empowering Communities through Clean Energy,” the program seeks to increase household adoption of renewable energy through expanded information and education campaigns, as well as social and behavioral change initiatives.
Through SunRISE, the Iloilo City Government continues to demonstrate its strong commitment to environmental sustainability and climate action by empowering communities to embrace clean energy solutions while promoting long-term economic and environmental benefits for Ilonggo families.
