iSTEP-UP JUKU Review and Tutorial Center Iloilo City

It’s undeniable that the pandemic has really disrupted years of our children’s education and social-being. Parents really need to help them catch-up on those missed learnings through supplementary education. Thankfully, iSTEP-UP JUKU Review and Tutorial Center is now in the metro to offer Japan-like educational support that is very effective and pocket-friendly.

ISTEP-UP JUKU Review and Tutorial Center opened its Iloilo City branch on Saturday, October 1 at 7J Corporate Center, corner Jalandoni-Ledesma streets. This is the third branch of the Center, after its highly successful operation in the towns of Miagao and Oton.

Mary Ann Morano, founder of iSTEP-UP JUKU, said that the learning center employs ‘universally-used’ strategies of Japan in teaching. She mastered these strategies through her extensive experience as an educator of foreign students for over 10 years, including over 5 years as a teacher in government schools in Japan.

“We are using the Gakudo (after-school) strategies, the Juku (cram school) strategies, and the Kouritsu Gakkou (public school) strategies in Japan. These are the universally-used strategies of Japan when it comes to their classes,” Morano said. “These strategies are very effective regardless of the the intellectual capacities or smartness of the kids,” she added.

The Center conducts one-on-one sessions and small group classes of six in a setting just like in the East Asian country.

“We have the kind of flow that is very original, that is only innate in us, that we have just created based on the Japanese government schools’ strategies. We see to it that we evaluate the teachers that they are strictly following the strategies that we are using so that it will be effective to the kids,” Morano explained.

“I believe that all kids have multiple intelligences that we just need to power-up in them,” she emphasized. “In this Center, we are balancing the academic performance of the children and their success in entrance exams so that they can choose the best school for them.”

Morano started the iSTEP-UP JUKU Review and Tutorial Center in 2019 after coming back home from Japan. As a mother, she saw the need for an education support for her children who were struggling in school, and finding a good tutor or learning center was a challenge in Miagao.

“We’ve been looking for tutors everywhere in Miagao, but we couldn’t find one who will stay regularly for our kids. And as working parents, it is very hard for us to do it,” Morano said.

She then started the Center in the southern Iloilo town, with her children as among those who benefited from the program. The Miagao branch has significant number students, and posted 100% passing rate in recent entrance exams of public and private elementary and high schools such as Philippine Science High School, Central Philippine University, and University of the Philippines.

“A child had a grade of 79 in Mathematics prior to iSTEP-UP, and after taking our classes, the Math became 98,” she related.

The tutorial center was also able to help lots of kids who had trouble with the shift of class from in-person to modular due to the pandemic. They were also the first ones to transition into online learning, just two weeks after the lockdown was implemented in 2020.

Programs

ISTEP-UP JUKU Review and Tutorial Center offers programs like the First Steps to Reading, Writing and Counting for 3 years old up to whichever age that needs assistance. They also have Homework Assistance and Modular Assistance modals of instruction.

“If you would like to give the best education support which uses the Japanese learning strategies from government schools, cram schools, and after-schools, we are very much encouraging you to try us. We are giving you the free orientation and the free assessment for the leveling of your kids and rest assured that we will grant your child success in their academics and entrance exam performance,” said Morano.

“For as low as P75 only per session, children can avail of quality education support that they need to progress in their learning. In ISTEP-UP, there is only one child that needs to be Supported, Trained, Educated, and Powered-UP. That way, there can be progress in every step.”
