LTO-6 free driver’s license program benefits 184 Ilonggos

LTO free driver's license program

A total of 184 Ilonggos are set to receive free driver’s licenses under the pioneering Scholarship-to-Livelihood Program of the Land Transportation Office Region VI (LTO-6), a first-of-its-kind initiative aimed at creating disciplined and qualified motorists while opening livelihood opportunities for beneficiaries.

The program fully covered the scholars’ Theoretical Driving Course (TDC), practical driving lessons, medical examinations, and assessment fees — allowing participants to complete the process without spending “a single centavo.”

More than 300 applicants initially joined the pilot batch, but only 184 successfully passed the intensive lectures and qualifying examinations conducted by the LTO-6 Traffic Safety Unit during the TDC held at Robinsons Place Pavia on May 19-20.

The initiative was spearheaded by LTO-6 Regional Director Atty. Gaudioso P. Geduspan II and Assistant Regional Director Jeck D. Conlu under the national leadership of LTO Chief, Assistant Secretary Markus V. Lacanilao.

Director Geduspan emphasized that the program is not simply giving away licenses but ensuring that every scholar earns the privilege through strict screening and training.

“We intend to produce quality and disciplined drivers on the road,” Geduspan said.

The lectures were conducted by expert instructors Mr. Michael Costuya and Mr. Bernard C. Bacay, while the assessment process was supervised by the LTO-6 Traffic Safety Unit headed by Chief Meljoy Gaurano.

Aside from providing livelihood opportunities, the initiative also aims to strengthen road safety standards in Western Visayas by producing more responsible and law-abiding drivers.
