More Electric and Power Corporation (MORE Power) employees fostered the spirit of volunteerism by joining the annual cleanup drive of the Iloilo City Government.

Sixty-five MORE Power volunteers, dubbed as “Guardians of the Environment”, took part in the coastal and city forest clean-up along the area in Brgy. Boulevard, Molo on Saturday morning, November 19.

The Iloilo City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) led the effort as part of National Environmental Awareness month this November.

“We would like to continue our commitment in serving our people in Iloilo not only being the distribution utility here but also sa mga ganitong klase ng project ng Iloilo City yung paglilinis ng environment. Maraming salamat po na nabigyan kami ng opportunity to be of help,” says Ma. Cristina D. Cabalhin, Vice President of Marketing and Corporate Affairs of MORE Power.

The volunteers gathered 59 sacks of trash which mainly included various types of plastic, old shoes, and plastic bottles.

Environmental Management Specialist Engr. Danilo Dinson of the CENRO expressed his gratefulness to MORE Power as they foster the spirit of volunteerism, even if coastal clean-up is far from their mandate as a distribution utility.

“Daku gid katama una, awareness gid sang mga tawo nga taga diri nga Makita nila nga nagapaninlo kita kag mabulig man sila kag indi maghaboy sang basura sa shoreline,” says Engr. Dinson, Environmental Management Specialist III of CENRO.

Plastic waste has become one of the main contributors to pollution in forests and the seas, harming marine creatures in the process. The activity aims to raise awareness among Ilonggos on being responsible trash owners.
