Ilonggo households have another reason to smile this June as MORE Electric and Power Corporation (MORE Power) rolls out a fresh round of electricity rate reductions—just in time for the back-to-school season.
Residential customers will enjoy a ₱0.61 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) drop in their electricity bills, bringing the rate down to ₱10.52/kWh, compared to ₱11.12/kWh in May. This translates to around ₱122 in savings for a household consuming 200 kWh per month—a timely boost for families juggling school-related expenses like tuition, uniforms, and supplies.
“This reduction is a big help for ordinary families, especially now that classes are about to start. Every peso saved on electric bills can be redirected to support their children’s schooling,” said Roel Castro, President and CEO of MORE Power.
Businesses will also benefit, with commercial rates decreasing to ₱9.84/kWh this June, from ₱10.45/kWh last month.
The rate cut is largely due to a ₱0.40/kWh drop in generation charges, driven by lower prices in the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM). The average WESM price went down from ₱4.45/kWh in May to ₱3.70/kWh, reflecting an improved supply situation in the grid.
Additionally, the transmission charge dipped by ₱0.0939/kWh, mainly because of lower Ancillary Services – Reserve Market (AS_RM) costs. Contributing further to the decrease is MORE Power’s remarkably low system loss of just 5.73%, a result of efficient operations and infrastructure upgrades.
MORE Power emphasized its continued commitment to delivering reliable yet affordable electricity to Iloilo City.
“We understand the financial pressures families face as the school year begins. By actively monitoring generation mix prices and sourcing power at the most competitive rates, we aim to pass on meaningful savings to our consumers,” Castro added.
This latest rate reduction underscores MORE Power’s consistent efforts to cushion consumers from high electricity costs—proof of its dedication to operational excellence and genuine concern for the people of Iloilo.
