My City, My SM, My Art celebrates PH visual arts at SM City Iloilo

My City, My SM, My Art, a celebration of Philippine Visual Arts, recently launched an exhibit of masterpieces of select artists at SM City Iloilo on February 12-17, 2019.

World Championship of Performing Arts (WCOPA) winner Daphne Jontarciego opens My City, My SM, My Art with stunning rendition of Ilonggo classic Ili-ili Tulog Anay.

In its 2nd stop in the region’s largest mall, My City, My SM, My Art roadshow showcased the life and works of artists not only from Iloilo, but also from Panay Island which includes the provinces of Antique, Aklan, Capiz, Guimaras, and Boracay island.

“This campaign truly brings art and people together through the works of masters, modernists, and millennials in a roadshow around SM Supermalls,” said Jasmine Linn Maquiling, Assistant Mall Manager of SM City Iloilo.

Art lovers and enthusiasts who graced the event got to marvel at amazing works of Antipas Delotavo, Alan Cabalfin, Momo Dalisay, Anna India Legaspi, Andrew Gritzka, Alberto Emmanuel Villavert III, Alvin Bueno Jr., Lino Villaruz, Robert Vargas, and Edmar Colmo.

Department of Tourism Region VI gave all out support for the project, which is geared towards the promotion of the beauty of the region through the artworks of recognized artists in each province. Different tourists’ attractions of Antique, Aklan, Capiz, Guimaras and Iloilo were also showcased through video presentations of each artists.

“Art can strengthen the tourism industry. Promoting tourism through arts can lead to economic development by drawing people’s interest towards the culture of the region, as well as invigorating skills and talents of our local artists,” DOT Region VI Director Atty. Helen J. Catalbas said.

The opening ceremony also saw world class Ilonggo talents, with song numbers from WCOPA multi-medalists Daphne Jontarciego and folk dance by members of The Annie Divinagracia-Sartorio School of Performing Arts.

My City, My SM, My Art is a joint project of SM, the Metropolitan Museum of Manila, Shell Philippines, the Philippine Star, with support from the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, and Centerstage Productions.
