Treñas places Iloilo City in ‘lockdown’

Mayor Jerry P. Treñas announced on Thursday that Iloilo City will be under enhanced community quarantine or a lockdown until April 14, 2020.

In a press conference around 12 noon, Treñas said that he will sign and release the Executive Order which will take effect starting tomorrow, March 20.

“We have to call this enhanced community quarantine(lockdown). We have to put in minds of everyone nga indi na sila pwede ka gwa sang basta-basta,” Treñas explained.

“We are doing this to limit mobility. We are trying to limit mobility because we are trying to lessen the number of persons going around the city, whole of Panay and Guimaras,” said Treñas.

“We are at war with something that we cannot see. These are extraordinary times, we have to meet this war with extraordinary measures.”

The city’s top executive enumerated that only groceries, food establishments, banks, pharmacies, gas stations, water refilling stations, markets, convenience stores, media outlets, BPOs, burial and crematory services will be allowed to open.

Curfew will also be implemented from 8 P.M. to 5 A.M. all over the city.

Only those who will go to work, on their way home, health workers, authorized government officials, those traveling for humanitarian reasons, and those who provide basic services and public utilities will be allowed to go out of their homes.

Treñas reported that there are already 1,040 identified persons under monitoring (PUMs) and 27 persons under investigation (PUIs) in Iloilo, as of Wednesday, March 18.

P98-million funds for fight against COVID-19

Treñas presided over the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC) meeting at City Hall March 19.

CDRRMC approved a resolution for the allocation of P98-million funds for preventive measures against COVID-19.

The City Council is set to hold a special session on Friday for the approval of the budget.

Treñas also urged barangay officials in an earlier meeting to request for approval of their calamity funds to be used for food of their constituents.

The funding will be utilized for laboratory materials/testing kits, food supplies, medicines and medical supplies, rental of medical equipment for the quarantine center, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), disaster response supply and equipment, and livelihood support.
