WV centenarians get P100,000 cash incentive

A total of 175 centenarians in Western Visayas has each received P100,000 cash incentive from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) as of Friday.

Regional Director Rebecca Palma-Geamala gives the P100,000.00 cash incentive and certificate to a centenarian from Iloilo City during the Launching of Awards and Incentives for Centenarians held in Iloilo Provincial Capitol, April 19, 2017.

DSWD-6 focal person for person with disabilities (PWDs) and older persons Judith Tanate said that they are already almost halfway in the distribution of the cash incentives to the total 360 centenarian-beneficiaries in the region.

Tanate recalled that the distribution in the region kicked off last April 19 with 109 centenarians from the city and province of Iloilo personally receiving their cash incentives at the Iloilo Provincial Capitol.

The next distribution took off last May 5 and 6 at the provinces of Aklan and Capiz, respectively. Thirty centenarians in Aklan received their cash incentive while 36 centenarians in Capiz also received theirs.

Tanate said that the distribution of cash incentives to the centenarians in the provinces of Antique and Negros Occidental, including Bacolod City is scheduled third week of this month. Negros Occidental has 82 identified centenarian-beneficiaries while Antique has 27.

Meanwhile, Tanate said that they currently have no problem being encountered in so far as distribution of cash incentives is concerned. She said that the family members of centenarians are submitting genuine documents showing that a family member is a true centenarian.

But she urged other family members to submit documents of their centenarian family member so they could already release their cash incentives.

Requirements of centenarians to avail the Php 100,000 cash incentive include birth certificate and any valid government-issued identification card.

Under the Section 2 of Republic Act 10868 or the “Centenarians Act of 2016,” all Filipinos who reach the age of one hundred (100) years old, whether residing in the Philippines or abroad, shall be honored with a letter of felicitation from the President of the Philippines congratulating the celebrant for his or her longevity and a centenarian gift in the amount of Php100,000.00.
