Around 2,500 Ilonggos will benefit from a temporary employment program launched by the Iloilo City Government to provide short-term jobs and financial assistance to residents who have lost their jobs, have insufficient income, or have been affected by economic challenges.
Mayor Raisa Treñas led the launch of the KAYA (KAbulig sa kabuhaYAn) program on June 26 at the Freedom Grandstand.
In her message, Treñas said the initiative was created to help Ilonggo families improve their future.
“Ano ang aton nga gusto? Ano bala ang aton tanan ginahandom? Bisan ano pa ang aton edad, trabaho ukon sitwasyon sa kabuhi, pareho ang aton handom tanan. Ang mapamaayo ang palaabuton para sa aton mga pamilya. Gindihon ko gid ini para sa mga pinalangga ko nga mga pumuluyo. Tanan nga pondo (para sa KAYA), iya sang Iloilo City Government,” she said.
Under the program, beneficiaries will render service in their respective barangays for 10 days and receive P4,000 in wages. The implementation of the initiative will be managed by the City Public Employment Service Office (PESO).
During the launch, PESO partnered with the City Health Office (CHO) to orient beneficiaries on eliminating mosquito breeding sites, including cleaning canals and drainage systems. The activity forms part of the city’s intensified anti-dengue campaign and its preparations for the rainy season.
Mayor Treñas also introduced the HAPLOS (Health Assistance sa Pumuluyo, Laboratory kag Ospital Serbis) program, which provides hospitalization and laboratory assistance of up to P50,000 for indigent residents.
