Antique reports 3 more COVID-19 cases

Updates on novel coronavirus in Antique province.

The Province of Antique confirmed that an additional three positive cases of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19), bringing the total to five cases in the province.

In a statement posted in the official Facebook page of Antique Provincial Health Office, Gov. Rhodora Cadiao said that the three new cases are all residents of Cebu City who arrived in Semirara Island last March 12, 2020.

All three new cases are coworkers of the first confirmed cases in the province, a 72-year-old male resident of Paranaque City in Metro Manila who traveled to Semirara via a private plane.

Semirara is an island-barangay of the municipality of Caluya situated 159 kilometers from the mainland Antique.

Cadiao said that they received the official result from the Department of Health Center for Development VI confirming the patients as positive for COVID19. Currently, the cases are asymptomatic, in stable medical condition and in isolation in Semirara Island.

“The Local Government Unit and the other stakeholders were already appraised and are coordinating accordingly with the Provincial Government. These new cases are part of the contact tracing activities done after the first case was identified; continued contact tracing and testing activities are being done,” Cadiao added.

As of April 16, Antique Provincial Health Office said that there are five total cases in the province. Four are in Semirara and the other one is a 69-year old male patient in Pandan.

There are 264 persons under monitoring (PUMs) for COVID-19 and 20 persons under investigation (PUIs), according to the latest case bulletin of the health office.
