Uswag Scholarship for poor but deserving Ilonggos students

Many Ilonggos are confronted with financial challenges due to the ongoing pandemic and the drastically increasing prices of basic commodities. Due to budget constraints, some gave up their education and resort to taking any job despite the very low salary. Fully aware of the circumstances, Mayor Jerry P. Treñas came up with USWAG Scholarship Program, giving assistance to the less fortunate but deserving Ilonggo students.

The USWAG SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM is part of the Iloilo City’s W.H.E.E.L.S. ON THE GO roadmap (Welfare, Health, Environment, Education, Livelihood, Sustainability) under Education.

Treñas started this program in 2010 that eventually created a roster of professionals in various fields to help build a better nation. The program has helped thousands of young Ilonggos continue their studies and achieve their dreams and ambitions.

This July, the program helped a thousand more scholars.

“Dugang naman ka mga 1,000 nga mga scholar ang nakabaton sang bulig pinansyal nga P5,000.00 nga aton ginapanagtag kada semester para makabulig sa aton mga kabataan nga malab-ot ang ila handum nga propesyon,” Treñas said.

Mayor Jerry P. Treñas believes that there is no substitute to formal education that’s why as much as possible, he encourages everyone to finish a degree because it’s easier to find a decent job if you have a diploma.

Anybody, despite of his/her political orientation and preference, is welcome to be part of the USWAG Scholarship Program. Residents of Iloilo City who are Senior High School Graduates, High School Graduates under old Department of Education (DepEd) curriculum, or already in College Level may avail of the scholarship.
