DA Region 6 conducts value-adding training for rural women in WV

The Department of Agricuture-Regional Field Office 6’s Gender and Development (GAD) Focal Point System conducted a farmers’ forum for the rural women in western visayas at Iloilo Research Outreach Station, Sta. Barbara, Iloilo, May 8.

With the theme “Agri-negosyo para kay Juana sa Pag-umwad sang Pamilya,”this year’s farmers’ forum aims to capacitate rural women through value-adding trainings.

Ms. Carmelita Fantilanan, GAD FPS Team Leader, encouraged all participants to be attentive in every lecture. She is positive that this training will help them come up with an additional income for the family.

“Let us take this training as an opportunity to grow and a window for a better life,” said Fantilanan. “

Mr. Glenn Mariano and Mr. Eden Panisales of the Western Visayas Integrated Agricultural Research Center(WESVIARC) conducted a training in mushroom burger patty, mushroom ice cream and crispy mushroom making.

Meanwhile, Ms. Mayflor Cepeda conducted a training in cassava cake and cheese cupcake baking.

All participants were very eagerin listening to all the recipes that were presented. They were amazed because with little ingredients needed, they can already replicate it in their own homes.

Aside from the training, all participants also received garden tools such as rake, spade, pruning shear and sprinkler. Also, the Iloilo ROS distributed planting materials and vegetable seeds.

The Farmers’ Forum is an annual activity of the Gender and Development Focal Point System. (DA6)
