DOST 6 rallies for future science scholars in WV

The Department of Science and Technology-Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) once again calls for the 2019 Undergraduate Science Scholarships (RA 7687 and Merit) to senior high school graduating students in Western Visayas as the deadline for said applications is set on August 31, 2018.

Applicants shall meet the following requirements to qualify for the application of the scholarship examination: a natural-born Filipino citizen; willing to pursue priority courses in science, mathematics and engineering; member of the top five percent of the Non- Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) strand senior high school graduating class, or, member of the STEM strand senior high school graduating class; and possess good moral character.

Qualifiers of the 2019 S&T Scholarship Examination shall enjoy the following privileges: (a) tuition and other school fees; (b) book allowance; (c) Physical Education uniform for the first semester of the first year only; (d) transportation allowance for those studying outside of home province; (e) monthly living allowance; (f) group insurance; (g) summer allowance if required per curriculum; and, (h) post-graduation clothing allowance.

The said examination covers aptitude tests designed to gauge academic proficiency in fields of science, mathematics, and engineering. Moreover, it includes logical reasoning, English, mechanical-technical and self-inventory.

DOST is devoted to accelerating the development of science and technology for socio-economic development. The Science and Technology (S&T) Scholarship Program is available for both undergraduate and graduate level scholarships, to those who meet the minimum grade requirement and those qualified by the S&T Scholarship Examination. DOST offers two undergraduate scholarship programs for incoming first-year college students– RA 7687 Scholarship and the DOST-SEI Merit Scholarship Program.

RA 7687 Scholarship (RA 7687) provides scholarship slots to poor but deserving students whose families’ annual gross incomes do not exceed Php 300, 999.00. The other scholarship referred to as DOST-SEI Merit Scholarship Program is awarded to students with high aptitude in science and mathematics and are willing to pursue careers in the fields of science and technology.

Application forms can be obtained at DOST 6 Regional Office and Provincial Science and Technology Centers (PSTCs) nearest you. It can also be downloaded at http://www.sei.dost.gov.ph/images/downloads/2019UndergApp.pdf.

Applicants must submit the accomplished form and pertinent documents the regional office and PSTCs. The nationwide S&T scholarship exam is scheduled for October 21, 2018.
