Iloilo City Gov’t awards market stalls to vendors

Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas led the awarding of initial 37 stalls at Iloilo Terminal Market, commonly called “Super”, to qualified and verified vendors.

According to Local Economic Enterprise Office (LEEO), the Iloilo Terminal Market has 1,100 stalls and 1000 more vendors are being verified.

LEEO head Maricel Mabaquiao said that the stalls are verified and adjudicated by the market committee. “They are bonafide stall holders who are qualified and completed the requirements according to Market Ordinance 2009-316,” said Mabaquiao.

Mayor Jerry Treñas said that the awarding of stalls legitimizes their businesses. He hopes for more economic activities in Iloilo City to help small businesses to recover.

The mayor further said, “Nalipay guid ako sa LEEO sa pagbulig agom sang sini nga inisiyatibo.

Trenas added that the SM Group is interested to fund the rehabilitation and improvement of ‘Super’ through a public-private partnership. He assured that if it pushes through and is completed, verified vendors will still be back to their stalls and the City Government will still manage the first floor.
